In this Journal series I present the Ideas that I think are good and/or interesting and deserve more attention. Under each title I included short description - a quote/summary from the original thread. To see details and possibly upvote the idea, follow the [link] next to the title.

Move the License, Details and Stats above related deviations [link]
:icondjdavid98:
"As an artist, making things is a time consuming process. For the effort I put into my work, I expect other people who want to re-use it to follow the license I add to my deviations. The problem is, the license, along with all interesting information is on the bottom of the page.

My suggestion would be to move (at least Details & License) above the download button on the deviation page, or at least making this an option, like the share buttons."

My Critiques Widget (Premium) [link]
:iconjasonswisher:
"it would be like the critiques widget however it would show the critiques that other people have done on their art instead of critiques they have done on other people's art"

More than having an Activity widget, add a Status Widget [link]
:iconmrmontolio:
"You know, we have not only the Watch Feed page when we go to the main page, but we can also add something pretty much similar to our profile page, just showing what only such user does instead: the Activity widget.

I think it's nice, but I also think it's pointless while we have already the Favorite widget, and Journal, and Newest Deviations... But, by removing the Activity widget, unless the user views the Watch Feed page, they'll never see anyone's status (and hey, let's face it, not everyone liked this update). And well, I don't think that receiving status on our inbox would be a good idea either. So... Do you think that adding a widget that shows only status on the user's profile is good? Obviously not EVERYONE should use it. We may add and remove it, just like the rest of widgets."

Add Daily Deviations on the bottom of the page again. [link]
:iconyanang:
"Many deviants in the community and I agree that we haven't seen many daily deviations since the removal of them in the bottom of the page.  Now we can only see them in the Today Page or on the daily deviation page as usual as we search for art.

While the new Today Page and some of the updates are great, it would be more convenient to see the daily deviations on bottom of the page again.  I've noticed that the number of views and favorites on them have decreased dramatically.  A popular daily deviation would get over 10,000 views in one day before the update, but now they only get about 5,000 which is obviously half of what it used to be.

I'm not saying that the new Today page should be gone, but daily deviations used to be more easier to find and I think that these artists whether or not people believe they deserved it or not should get the exposure they deserve."

Today a special issue. deviantART just rolled major updates on the site and there is a lot to improve on. Check out this few suggestions and make sure to visit Ideas Forum to find more.

In this Journal series I present the Ideas that I think are good and/or interesting and deserve more attention. Under each title I included short description - a quote/summary from the original thread. To see details and possibly upvote the idea, follow the [link] next to the title.

Moving the activity stream on your profile page [link]
:icondaxx0r:
"(...) I love the new activity stream, and since my new art ends up there anyway, I was actually hoping to remove my "latest deviations" widget and just keep the activity stream on the left side... cause that's more or less what the left side is being used for anyway. But I'm not allowed to do that because the stream is locked to the right. To me, this seems clunky and makes the profile messy - but it also creates a few problems: Because it is a HUGE widget, anybody who wants to leave a comment has to scroll down a full six screens in order to do so. It has made the right side of my profile screen miles longer than the left side. (...)"

Edit Activity on the Activity Feed [link]
:iconexarobibliologist:
"The Activity Feed is a catch all of everything you do. As I recently discovered, there are a few bugs, which hopefully will taken care of soon. For one thing, sometimes you can submit forum posts to closed forums like the Seniors forum, and it will show up in the Activity Feed for EVERYONE to read!!

Currently, the only option the Activity Feed has is to "Remove This Widget". And it seems removing the widget is the only option if you want to hide something that the Activity Widget is stubbornly insisting on showing.

For this reason, I think that the Activity Feed needs a "Edit Activity" option. There needs to be some way to manually filter something that you don't want showing up in the Activity Feed. "Edit Activity" won't allow you to move items around, or change timestamps; all it would allow you to do is hide and unhide Activity Feed history items."

Separate settings for Message Center and Watch Feed or the option to filter out/separate Groups feed [link]
:icon16thsquadsanseki:
I read on the update that the settings for Message Center and Watch Feed are the same. But that can be really inconvenient. It seems the submissions are always showed one by one, so if someone watches a busy Group (or few), those submissions will spam their whole feed and they won't be able to see anything else simply because of not enough time or patience to scroll through it all. In Message Center I can quickly look at thumbs and see if I like something but having to scroll through big pictures one by one doesn't seem enjoyable.

Another thing is, let's say I'm a member of a Group which is a TV show fanclub. The show starts a new season but I can't watch it right now, so I just don't check the deviations from that Group until I catch up. But I do want to see them eventually, so I leave them in my Message Center for later. Though if I do that, I will also see the deviations (and possibly spoilers) in my Watch Feed. I could just disable deviation updates from that Group but Groups don't have "Browse"/"All" button in the Gallery, so I would have to check every folder for new submissions.

I think it would be good if you could have separate settings for Message Center and Watch Feed to just make it easier to use and browse. If that's too difficult to implement for technical reasons, then I think a good solution would be an option to filter out the Groups feed or an option to have deviants feed and Groups feed in 2 separate tabs.

Ideas for better collections: Notifications when someone watches a collection of ours. [link]
:iconkiwikku:
"I can understand the rationale for not counting someone as a "watcher" when they are just watching a collection of yours. They aren't following your art, so they aren't really there for you. But in a way, they are. It's your particular selection of art they enjoy, and the skills you put into selecting the finest dA has to offer should be rewarded.

That person still needs to be counted somehow, and the curator should be able to toggle notifications on/off whenever one of their collections are watched or something they post on the deviantfeed is reblogged. Next to the watch button on any collection should be a counter that lets us know how many times a collection has been watched, with a "what's hot" page for collections of art. This will encourage the curator to continue selecting the best art.

When it comes to watching collections and the activity feed, we're missing the ability to selectively unwatch collections from an artist we're already watching. It shouldn't be an all-or-nothing type thing where we have to either watch all the collections or none of them. See my mockup for details.

It might also be a good idea to allow for sharing of collections on the activity feed, since someone might want to share a collection they like with their watchers."

Collection System Changes; Vertical Drag-Drop, List Style Profile Widget, ect. [link]
:icontayleaf:
"VISUAL EXAMPLE : fav.me/d5kukup

Changes would include;
  • Optional vertical, list style drop down when trying to click-drag-drop a deviation into favorites or collections.
  • The ability to set your favorite 'widget' to show all your collections in either thumbnail view, or list view. Very nice for organized fav'ers, or people who might like to feature multiple areas of their collections at once. (...)"

Create preview or thumb images for Skins that are only saved in Sta.shWriter [link]
:iconpica-ae:
"I create a lot of journal skins that are not avaiable via the installable skins gallery, but only for my person journals or group journals.

It would be a great improvement, if we were able to apply preview or thumb images to those skins that are stored only in Sta.shWriter. This would make it a lot easier to find skins in storage and it would make it a lot easier to share journals in groups with other users."

deviantWATCH window with message board [link]
:iconshakhorht:
"I thought this could be useful to add a message when you are watching a person.

I people like hearing why people watch them, or how they found them."

Preview: [link]

:icon16thsquadsanseki:
That sounds good. From what I see the box is optional (just like message when joining a Group), so no one would be forced to do it and I'm always curious to know what got people interested since I try many different things. Also, I myself often find an artist and just generally like their Gallery, so I want to say few words.

The one thing I'd change is make the notification display more like the messages when joining Group or receiving points - in the box, under the "someone added you to devWATCH". The link may be too easy to miss.

Profile suggestions (linking other sites) [link]
:iconlaurij:
"Hello dA. Tell me, would it be an ok idea if there was a section in your profile where you can provide links to other possible art sites that are out there? Yes, I know you can simply link them in your profile description and be done with it but I think a separate section for them should be interesting. So, say you have a profile at flickr besides dA. You simply provide your link/username in the flickr box. Same thing with FurAffinity, SheezyArt etc."

:icon16thsquadsanseki:
I think it could be generally nice to have a box (or separate section in ID) for links and not have to list them in ID. It could be done kind of like on YouTube - you add a link and in the box it displays just the icon of the site, it may have a description if you hover over it.

The Group W-I-T-C-H-Universe is holding an Elyon contest with great prizes! I found out about that accidentally while looking for Groups for my newest sketch aaand I decided that I may join too, why not?

Weekly Sketch #5: Elyon by 16thSquadSanseki

And now the nostalgia triiiip!

Yes, I used to read W.I.T.C.H., the comics by Italian author Elisabetta Gnone. And Elyon was what (or who) got me to read it in the first place, the scenes I remember the most are Elyon walking into a wall creepy way (that got me interested), her being bored in Phobos' palace, her becoming the Sun of Meridian and the special backstory chapter with her and Cornelia. So yeah, I guess you could say she was my favourite character.

My favourite witch was Hay Lin, apparently I always had a thing for Asia :XD: or maybe she was just the most... normal :o. Now that I think about it, she's kinda my type of character in terms of personality: a bit of a weirdo with her own style, artist, loving the tradition but also the new stuff, uncommon interest (her - UFO, me - games, especially SC) etc.

But what's even more nostalgic is the fact that I started learning to draw on W.I.T.C.H. comics. Of course I made some doodles as a kid but I remember how I tried to copy some panels or how I started adding the eyes similar to Will's to my drawings. I even took one of the characters and drew my own comics. After that, I took a break and came back to drawing in 2010 when I started to draw Bleach fanarts. But still, I think you can consider it the beginning of my adventure with "learning to art".

:bigthumb406916377:

I didn't read it till the end though. In my country it was a biweekly magazine - comics + quizzes, "magic" games, witch fashion articles etc. At the beginning it was decently interesting (though I was collecting it just for the comics anyway) but in time it was becoming more and more childish, in the end I was reading only comics and didn't even bother with the rest at all. It felt as if they changed the target from teenagers to preschool/early elementary school. Or maybe I just grew out of it, I can't tell. I could have bought volumes but I didn't know much about it back then and usually when I have to wait long for next chapter, I tend to forget about it. The story didn't keep my attention so much anymore either, as it often happens, the first/second arc is usually the best and then it starts to drag. I also felt like with time it was more and more awkward around peers as well. So at some point I just stopped.

Some time ago I saw the last panel of the comics and I'm considering reading it but I don't remember what I already read and I don't have time for my "to read" list anyway. And before doing this sketch, I looked up some Elyon pics as reference and I found a panel of her with a sword and I was like "omg, she looks exactly like her mother, you poor girl", so I'm not sure if I want to know ;w; I mean I always liked the fact that she was a queen but she stayed her nice and funny self. But on that panel she looks so serious and responsible for her people, so yeah ;w; If you read the whole thing, say meow in the comments. Thanks. I don't expect many people to read it but I just felt like writing about this one.

P.S. My recent art
As you might have noticed, recently I started to upload some sketches. I still make digital art but I'm not sure if I want to upload it =P And I'm really enjoying the pen sketches atm, so there probably will be more of them. Feel free to suggest me stuff to draw :dummy:

Misc. Group-Related Changes [link]
:iconyoriden:
"I would like to see various improvements to group features, such as:
  1. Give us the option to make group polls member-exclusive. (...)
  2. Add search options to the gallery- in particular, the ability to find all works by a specific artist.
  3. Organize the member list alphabetically in the admin area. (...)
  4. Allow us to organize the order that folders appear in the drop-down menu when submitting. (...)
  5. Custom widgets need to be easier to layout- granted, this is a group and profile thing, but I'd like to be able to apply css to my custom widgets. Without it, they're hardly "custom" and more of a "pain in the ass trying to edit".
  6. And everyone's favorite- Submit to Group. In addition to the 'recently submitted to', I would like an option for 1) Groups we are actually in, and 2) "Favorite" groups- which would be determined possibly in the same means as the "Friends" option on the Manage Friends page. Favorite would be featured primarily, groups we are in would be the second tab, groups we recently submitted to would come third, and type in a group name would go last."

Remove deactivated accounts from watchers list [link]
:iconooupoutto:
"As a member for 6 years, I have a lot of deactivated accounts on my watchers list. It's not bothersome but it is strange that they still count towards my 'total watchers' when they aren't a usable account anymore."

:icon16thsquadsanseki:
I think it should just move the crossed out accounts to the end of the list or something and when you look at your Watchers widget, it would show only active accounts and there should be a button "show inactive accounts", so you or other members can always check that if you want to. So the inactive names would still be there but they wouldn't be displayed by default and wouldn't be included in the watchers count.

Subforums for Suggestions [link]
:iconyoriden:
"To make it easier to a) find out if our idea has already been suggested, and b) find suggestions we would like to vote on... I propose subforums for this forum organized by feature.

Examples:
Groups
Gallery
Profiles
Sta.sh

Something like that, so it would be easier to find suggestions related to features that we care about."

:icon16thsquadsanseki:
I think [the original categories] were merged because if I'm not wrong there was less than 10 suggestions for Sta.sh and Sta.sh Writer and like 200 in the general deviantART section.

But the number of suggestions is growing, so I think some kind of categories or at least tags could be useful.

Comments Widget Description [link]
:iconyoriden:
"Many users make note on their profile for people to not thank for llamas or faves or watches... but this notice is not always in a predictable or noticeable place, and can be easily overlooked, much to anyone's frustration. What we should have is a box attached right to the comments widget where we can put a description of rules for commenters- directly above the text field and below the Comments header. That way we can put our comment rules right there where you type, where it can't be overlooked, where no one can say "I didn't see it".

And this should be available for groups as well because damn do they need it too. =)"

:icon16thsquadsanseki:
I think this could be a good idea. Not just to tell people that you don't want "thanks for faves" but also things like "commissions open" or link to your FAQ because those things often appear in the comments too.

I'd limit the characters though (like 200?) to make it stay informative and not be used as another crazy decoration space.
